James Armstrong James Armstrong was born in 1904. and was a resident of Delanco. He served as radioman aboard the Liberty Ship Esso Raleigh (AO-32), a Cimarron-class fleet replenishment oiler which sank on April 14, 1961 about 30 miles southeast of Boston in a heavy gale. The radio mast was damaged when the ship broke her back. James rigged an auxiliary antenna and sent the SOS. All 35 members of the crew were rescued with only one injury.
